The City of Omaha Planning Department was awarded a Specialty Crop Block Grant from the Nebraska Department of Agriculture to develop an Urban Farm Zoning Guide and Registry. The Guide helps producers navigate the new urban agriculture zoning and permitting processes and includes information on growing specialty crops. Modeled after Omaha's Lead Registry, the Urban Agriculture Registry helps ensure crop production is in lead-safe soil and connects Registry participants with training, technical assistance, and funding opportunities provided by Nebraska Extension, Douglas County Health Department, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
